General Information

This year’s Frederick Reads author is Elizabeth Gilbert, award-winning writer of both fiction and non-fiction. Gilbert is best known for her 2006 memoir Eat, Pray, Love, which chronicled her solo journey around the world, looking for solace after a difficult divorce. The book spent 57 weeks in the number-one spot on the New York Times paperback bestseller list and has been published in 30-plus languages. A movie version, starring Julia Roberts as Gilbert, is in the making. Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage, is Gilbert’s fifth and most recent book. It begins where Eat, Pray, Love left off, with Gilbert exploring her fears and hesitations about marrying her Brazilian sweetheart.

This is a free, unticketed event.

Want an opportunity to meet Elizabeth Gilbert and have a reserved seat at the Weinberg?

The Frederick Reads Committee is hosting a special Artist Reception with Elizabeth Gilbert on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center located at 40 S. Carroll Street. The event cost $75 and includes a reception with Elizabeth Gilbert, a signed copy of Eat, Pray, Love, and preferred seating at the 8 p.m. performance at the Weinberg. Proceeds will help Frederick Reads continue to promote reading and literacy in Frederick County.

Tickets to the event go on sale February 5th at 10 a.m. through this webpage. Limited seating is available.

Additionally, Elizabeth will be interviewed by Paul Holdengräber, Director of Public Programs at The New York Public Library and founder and Director of LIVE from the NYPL.

Over the past several years, Paul Holdengräber has revitalized the venerable New York Public Library, creating a public forum to celebrate the arts, politics, and culture. Holdengräber’s “LIVE from the NYPL” event series has become the hottest ticket in a town full of hot tickets. Often acting as interviewer (and ringmaster!), Holdengräber and his well-known, freethinking guests provide an endless array of viewpoints across the cultural spectrum.
