Heaps of mashed potatoes, endless turkey, and the whole family together… what could possibly be better than Thanksgiving? As everyone gears up for the big day of giving thanks, we wanted to join in and turn to our Weinberg family to ask why they’re most thankful for our members.
John Healey | Executive Theater Manager
Every year I’m thankful for our members because they allow me to be creative! They allow me to take chances and bring in artists that are positive for the greater Frederick community. We might lose money, but they’re important for programming. Also equally important, our members allow us to help other theater-goers who may not be able to afford attending a show or two themselves.
Rebecca O’Leary | Manager of Development
I am thankful for Weinberg members because our members help provide 15,000 Frederick area school children with quality arts experiences and keep the arts accessible and affordable in general. It wouldn’t be possible without them!
Jef Cliber | Box Office Manager
Every season, you hope to have really struck a chord with your audiences. Obviously, we aim to appeal to every patron that we can, combining the type of programming offered with the specific artists themselves. Our members are a key piece to each season’s “puzzle”. They offer us critical feedback about the various performances we showcase, and that is a tremendous help. It really is. That is why I am so thankful for our members – the feedback they provide is invaluable to knowing if the Weinberg Center for the Arts is living up to our nickname as “the Jewel of Frederick”.
Ashley Birdsell Lewis | Manager of Marketing
Our members are our biggest advocates! I am thankful for how they help spread the word about the great shows and opportunities we offer. I just love when a longtime patron introduces a friend or family member to our beloved theater and we hear “Oh, this is why you love the Weinberg so much!” I truly believe our members are among our greatest assets. We couldn’t do what we do without them!
A big thank you to all of our members who make it possible for us to continue offering such a diverse array of talent, year after year. From all of us here at the Weinberg, we hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving!

Just last week, the long anticipated night arrived: Straight No Chaser visited Frederick on their World Tour! On the evening of their performances, Randy Stine and Seggie Isho, two of the talented singers, took over our Instagram to give fans an inside-scoop into what went on in preparing for an outstanding show at the Weinberg. Check out some of our favorites that the SNC squad and fans have shared on Instagram:
The energy of the a cappella group was infectious from the start!
Each and every one of the ten members dressed to impress Wednesday night.
Not only extraordinary music—but also extraordinary humor! On and off the stage, these guys were a blast to be around.
The noise and atmosphere of the room was incredible. Thanks not only to the Straight No Chaser ensemble for having a great performance, but also to SNC fans for being a great audience!
Can you spot yourself? It was great to see everyone smiling and having a good time!
And last but not least, thanks to Weinberg guest @adubyailkinson for snapping this great shot of the group that night. We’re so glad you had a good time!
There you have it, folks! Even if you missed the show, we hope you enjoyed this sneak-peek into the performance. And we’d love to see your Weinberg pics, too! Don’t forget to tag them with #WeinbergCenter so we can see the great memories you’ve shared. See you at the theater!
Walking down our theater’s aisles on any given day, it’s hard to ignore the energy that encompasses the room—there have been too many fond memories to count! Over the years, we’ve seen more and more individuals commemorating these moments, while simultaneously giving back to help us bring the arts to Frederick. As hinted last week, we decided to highlight one short, sweet story of individuals who were happy to share their fond Weinberg memories. And trust us—it’s sure to leave you smiling!
Growing up in Hagerstown, Dalton was never far from his grandmother Linda, spending countless days bonding over performances at the Weinberg. Time and time again, the duo would attend a show at the theater, and Linda began noticing her grandson’s analytical mind when watching the performances.
When he was only five years old, they were getting up to leave an iconic Nutcracker performance, and Linda caught Dalton eyeing an area above the stage. Following his gaze, she asked him what he was thinking. He stared a bit longer at the tall ceiling with a frown of concentration on his face and questioned, “How does the snow fall?” With the help of volunteers, Linda got to show Dalton how the workers operated the artificial snow and since this moment, he has continued to prove himself an exceptionally hands-on, investigative person.
On this day exactly 7 years ago, Linda surprised her then-eight-year-old grandson with a unique gift: his name forever engraved on his favorite Weinberg seat! Whenever Dalton and Linda continue their tradition of attending a Weinberg performance, Dalton loves to sit directly behind the seat engraved with his name and occasionally joke with whoever’s sitting there: “You’re in my seat — literally!”
Next time you find yourself sitting in our theater, check to see if you’re sitting in “Dalton’s seat,” or perhaps the spot of another Tivoli or Weinberg memory. As our timeless venue continues to live on, we look forward to hearing and commemorating the memories that live with it.
If you have your own Weinberg memory or artifact you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to #ShareYourWeinberg and join us in celebrating 90 years as the cultural cornerstone of Frederick. Interested in commemorating a memory at our theater yourself? Check out how to dedicate a theater seat of your own with a unique plaque. See you at the theater!
As many know, Giving Tuesday is all about helping others—whether it be through the gift of time, voice, or donation. This year, the international day of giving falls on November 29, which is right around the corner! If you’re looking to give to the community this season, but not quite sure how, we made a quick and easy list of ways you can contribute to our beloved theater. Check out these five creative ways to give:
1. Shop with Amazon Smile.
Amazon Smile is an easy way for holiday shoppers to support a favorite charitable organization every time you shop—at no extra cost. Simply select “Weinberg Center for the Arts” when choosing your charitable organization, and Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to our theater.
2. Purchase a brick or a star on the Walk of Fame.
Be the giving star of Frederick! You can give and get if you choose to engrave a brick or star on the Weinberg Walk of Fame. Choose a commemorative brick to engrave with your name or the name of someone special, or even pick a star to have engraved with a sweet personalized message.
3. Name a seat in the theater.
Not seeing stars just yet? Those with a favorite seat are able to dedicate an elegant theater chair with an engraved plaque. The plaques can be used to honor a loved one, to celebrate a fond memory, or even recognize an important milestone. The possibilities are endless!
4. Add a donation on to your ticket purchase.
Whenever we see someone add an extra contribution on their ticket purchases, we can’t help but smile. Interested in seeing Simply Three or The Sicilian Tenors, but haven’t bought your tickets yet? With all the performances coming up this month, you can participate in giving back easily during the checkout process.
5. Ask your employer to join in on the giving.
Many employers will double your donation through what’s called a “matching gift program” – check with your employers to see if you can team up to increase the size and impact of your gift!
Community support is crucial — that’s why we are so appreciative of theater-lovers like you. When the end of November rolls around and you are looking for a way to participate in the giving, don’t hesitate to take a peek at this list for helpful ideas. Also, check back next week for an endearing story told by a longtime supporter who “gave creatively.”
See you at the theater!
