MD Regional Ballet presents Frederick School of Classical Ballet in
Under the direction of Joyce Morrison, this full length production will feature professional guest artists Ellen Grocki and Reyneris Reyes, both of whom are dancers with Miami City Ballet. Ms. Grocki will dance the role of Princess Aurora and Mr. Reyes will dance the role of Prince Desire.
The ballet retells the loved and familiar story of Princess Aurora, who, at her christening, is bestowed with the gifts of virtue by her fairy godmothers. But as we all know, the fairy Carabosse, arrives uninvited at the celebration and in her anger pronounces an evil curse upon the Princess, proclaiming that on her 16th birthday, Princess Aurora shall prick her finger and die! The benevolent Lilac Fairy quickly comes to the rescue and casts another spell upon Aurora which softens the curse so that instead of dying, Princess Aurora will fall into a deep sleep until awakened by a kiss from a handsome prince. When Princess Aurora turns sixteen, the Royal Family and the Court celebrate with a party and Carabosse arrives in disguise and presents Princess Aurora with a spindle as a gift. The unknowing Princess pricks her finger on it and collapses. The Lilac Fairy quickly appears and reminds the King and Queen that the Princess will not die, but instead will sleep and she casts a spell over the entire court to sleep with her. The Princess and the Court sleep for one hundred years until Prince Desire, while hunting with members of his Court, dreams of his ideal love. The Lilac Fairy appears before him and leads the Prince to the sleeping Princess Aurora. He awakens her with a kiss and the evil spell is immediately broken. Prince Desire and Princess Aurora fall immediately in love, and the ballet concludes with a joyous wedding celebration.
